John B. Butler, III graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. degree in History from the University of South Carolina. He
received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1981, and was admitted to the
South Carolina Bar that same year. In 1984, Mr. Butler was appointed the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee for the Greenville/Spartanburg
division of South Carolina. Prior to entering private practice, he served for three years as Law Clerk for the Honorable J. Bratton Davis,
Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of South Carolina. In 1993, Mr. Butler was certified as a specialist in
bankruptcy law by the South Carolina Supreme Court. His articles on bankruptcy topics have been published in the Commercial Law Journal, the South Carolina Lawyer, the South Carolina Law Review, and the American Bankruptcy Journal, and he speaks regularly on bankruptcy and related topics to legal
education seminar groups and various creditor groups.
